Job Title: Site Engineer – HS2 Earthworks

Location: Aylesbury

Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 Plus £20,000 subsistence allowance, £5,000 car allowance, 10% bonus, health care, 25 days holidays, pension

Company Overview: My client is a leading earthworks contractor specializing in large-scale infrastructure projects. As part of their team working on the HS2 project, we are seeking a dedicated and skilled Site Engineer to ensure the successful execution of earthworks activities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a prestigious project and work alongside a dynamic and experienced team.

Role Overview: The Site Engineer will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the construction activities related to earthworks on the HS2 project. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of IFC Drawings, Specifications, Technical Standards, Inspection and Test Plans, and Mass Haul quantities and destinations for each earthworks asset within their designated section of work.

They will effectively translate this knowledge into accurate construction on site, ensuring minimal non-conformance reports (NCRs) and rework through efficient communication with Works Managers and Foremen. The Site Engineer will also play a crucial role in identifying and reporting defects promptly, proposing corrective actions, and ensuring remedial works are carried out promptly and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of IFC Drawings, Specifications, Technical Standards, Inspection and Test Plans, and Mass Haul quantities and destinations for each earthworks asset within the section of work being undertaken.
Communicate effectively with Works Managers and Foremen to ensure accurate construction implementation on site, minimizing NCRs and rework.
Promptly highlight and report any defects to the Senior Engineer, propose corrective actions, and collaborate with the Client to quickly resolve issues while minimizing disruptions.
Facilitate learning from errors by ensuring the entire team understands and learns from mistakes to prevent their repetition.
Assist in producing high-quality safety documentation, such as Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS), in a timely manner to facilitate smooth project progress.
Support Foremen and Supervisors in receiving the Permit to Break Ground and regularly review the working area and service locations to prevent service strikes.
Ensure completion of Quality Assurance forms for each section of work, accurately reflecting the as-built construction. Obtain timely sign-off from the client.
Review daily Allocation Sheet data, identify additional works, missing items, and poor record-keeping, and provide the Commercial team with accurate daily work records.
Collaborate with the Mass Haul Manager to assist with quantities, locations, and material types based on extensive knowledge of day-to-day activities.
Aid in the supervision of Apprentice/work-placement engineers, delegate tasks effectively, and promote effective time management.
Occasionally support the survey team by conducting site surveys in the absence of a surveyor, ensuring construction activities proceed smoothly.Qualifications and Skills:

A strong leader with the ability to empathise
Degree/HNC in a relevant subject or qualified by experience
Substantial responsibility for the operation of NEC Option C contracts
Considerable experience of civil engineering construction
A skilled negotiator
