Temporary – 6 weeks

Hours: Monday to Friday, 46.25 hours per week

Overview
On behalf of Buckinghamshire Council, Pertemps Recruitment have an exciting opportunity for an HGV Class 2 Driver to join the Recycling and Waste Services team at the Pembroke Road Depot in Aylesbury. Working alongside the team, you will play an important role in the collection of waste from properties throughout the district. The type of waste will vary and will include refuse, dry recycling, food, garden and clinical in addition to the delivery and collection of bins.

About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving a specialist refuse collection vehicle that ranges from 3.5T to 32T on agreed routes
You will lead a small team of Loaders to ensure that waste is collected, transported and disposed of in line with specific service delivery standards.
This role is key to providing an essential service to our residents and local communities, and as the front line representative of the council, the role holder will ensure a professional image is presented by their team.
Responsible for delivering a safe and effective frontline commercial service to customers and the wider community.
The service is highly visible to customers and role holders are expected to act as ambassadors for the Council.
The role holder will be responsible for the vehicle in their charge, carrying out daily vehicle inspections and maintaining it to ensure it is clean and tidy.
The Driver Team Leader will be expected to liaise with the onsite Workshop in regard to the maintenance of their vehicle and ensure that the Council's Health & Safety Regulations are adhered to at all times. This includes ensuring that their team comply with Health and Safety Regulations and Safe Systems of Work; collecting, transporting and disposing of different types of waste safely and efficiently according to operational and legislative specifications.
The Driver Team Leader will ensure that that the necessary uniform and personal protective equipment and clothing is worn by all members of their team as instructed within the relevant procedures. The role holder will role model a zero tolerance to breaches of health and safety and will ensure that any training and development needs within their team are highlighted as a priority to the Operations Supervisors.
The role holder will be confident to make reactive decisions whilst delivering the service across their allocated area, to ensure that operational requirements and health and safety standards are not compromised.
The role holder will be expected to adhere to administrative reporting procedures related to operations including accidents, missed bin locations, side refuse monitoring, incorrect/contaminated recyclables, fly tipping and badly littered sites. This requires the role holder to use in cab terminals and smartphones in addition to producing hand written paper monitoring sheets
This is a temporary position for 6 weeks only. The pay rate is £15.77 per hour, and you will be working full time, 46.25 hours per week (6:15am to 4:30pm).

Full training will be provided. PPE will also be provided. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established team.

About you
HGV Class 2 Drivers must hold the following skills and experiences:
Current driving licence and safe driving history
LGV Class C Licence
Ability to communicate effectively and lead a small team with a positive and proactive approach
Demonstrable ability to be punctual, reliable and work in all weather conditions
