Job Description: Trainee Housing Officer – Supported Housing- Aylesbury/Harrow area

Responsible To: Housing Team Leader

Short Description: Trainee Housing Officer will proactively support the Housing Team Leader, tenants, including those with Mental Health, Learning and Physical Disabilities to sustain their tenancies in a safe living environment and ensure they adhere to tenancy obligations including payment of accommodation charges.

Specific Duties

The Trainee Housing Officer will be specifically responsible for:

1. Assessing nominations and suitability of referrals.

2. Facilitating move in and move out of tenants.

3. Complete all necessary tenancy, move in and move out documentation according to RHL processes.

4. Supporting tenants to make necessary welfare applications including housing benefit.

5. Ensure tenants are compliant with their tenancy agreement including rent, service charges, settlement of any arrears and that they maintain compliance with all aspects of their tenancy agreement and associated rules.

6. Work in partnership to social care providers and other stakeholders in order to maximise support available to tenants.

7. Produce personalised tenancy sustainment support plans and risk assessments.

8. Support tenants and neighbours to a positive and harmonious community, ensuring that tenants minimise anti-social behaviours and assisting in managing any disputes should they arise.

9. Support tenants to maximise their independent living including securing voluntary or paid employment or access to training.

10. Support tenants with intensive housing management tasks and activities and documenting engagement in accordance with the company policies and procedures.

11. Conduct periodic and ad hoc accommodation audits, risk assessments, inspections and property visits facilitating resolution of non-conformities where required.

12. Conduct periodic tenant workshops to discuss tenancy related matters and prospective changes in welfare benefits, accommodation etc.

13. Work closely with tenants and their social care providers to ensure accommodations remain compliant with health & safety regulations and company standards.

14. Identify and facilitate timely repair and maintenance of accommodation and ensuring that the maintenance is successfully completed.

15. Produce accurate required documentation, reports and letters to tenants and other stakeholders in a timely manner.

16. Maintain up to date records at all times.

17. Working with all necessary parties and stakeholders to deliver all the responsibilities for this job role.

Person Specification

The following qualification, skills and experience are required for this role:

Educate to degree level in any subject or Level 2 Certificate in CIH Housing Practice (or equivalent)

Willingness to pursue Level 3 Certificate in Housing Practice (or equivalent)

Previous experience in a housing role in a housing association setting

Background in social care beneficial

Welfare benefits knowledge

Working understanding of government and local authority regulations relating to tenancies, housing benefits and housing associations

Competence in the use of Microsoft Office and Internet applications

Strong English spoken, listening, writing and communication skills

Strong administration skills, letter and report writing

Able to work on own Initiative and with minimum supervision

Confident, self-starter and flexible approach

Full driving licence and use of own vehicle
